Picadinho

Picadinho

Two good friends of mine in Murcia were born in Portugal but raised in England.
Last week one of them made a traditional Portuguese dish called Picadinho. This dish consists of french fries covered in a stew of steak, vegetables and tomato sauce. Traditionally there is one large plate of Picadinho and everyone eats from the plate with toothpicks. It was very good and the two large plates quickly disappeared.

Finals

This week has been somewhat crazy since it is my first week back to Murcia after Christmas, and it is Part 2 of finals. It is times like this when I miss the U.S.A.....

The Spanish school schedule is very different from that of the U.S. Classes start in early September and run until the week before Christmas. Finals then follow from the beginning of January until the end of January. This means an entire MONTH of finals. Scary. I believe the idea is to have on average one final a week, but I would rather get them all done and over with. Classes then start up again on January 31st and run until May, followed by another month of finals in June. And if you happen to fail a class (which I am told happens frequently) you can have one chance to retake the exam in June or August of that year. Whew

I now only have one final left on Monday in el clase de Normativo. The exam should not be too tough but we shall see!

Getting There is Half the Fun, Sometimes

It is a good thing I don't mind traveling for long periods of time. So far my day has included 9.5 hours on the Amtrak, one taxi ride, 3 hours of flying, and 7 hours of layovers. Only 9 more hours of flying, 12 hours of layovers, and one more taxi until I am finally back in my apartment in Murcia. :)
